Santa Lucia Highlands
An editorial photography project documenting the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation of Monterey County, one of California's most acclaimed wine regions, known for its cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grown at elevations between 1,200 and 2,200 feet.
The brief called for imagery that communicates the region's dramatic hillside terrain, the producers behind its wines, and the intersection of agriculture and craft that defines the Santa Lucia Highlands identity.
About the Project
Wine country photography rooted in place and people
Wine region work is at its best when it captures what makes a place taste the way it does. For the Santa Lucia Highlands project, Tom focused on the elements that define the appellation: the marine layer rolling in from Monterey Bay, the rocky hillside soils, the hands that tend the vines, and the quiet precision of harvest.
The resulting images work across winery brand materials, press releases, tourism content, and editorial features, giving the Santa Lucia Highlands Winegrowers Association a complete visual library that speaks to both trade audiences and wine consumers.
Approach & Craft
Editorial wine photography for appellations and producers
Tom's wine region and vineyard photography spans California appellations, working with producers ranging from small family estates to established AVA organizations. His editorial approach, built on natural light, authentic moments, and a genuine curiosity about the people behind the wine, produces imagery that resonates with critics, sommeliers, and enthusiastic consumers alike.
